Friends on the aft deck, a swim before dinner, a sunset that extends into an evening and the whole aft deck becomes an open room with everyone in it. This is the Sport Weekender 42 Open, the new version of the 12.7-metre boat many know as the Weekender 11, now built with a glass-fibre targa arch in place of the T-top. The first one is in the water at the Cannes Yachting Festival, Port Canto, Power 054, from 8 to 13 September.

The Coupé series has been the backbone of Nimbus since the company’s founding in 1968. From the 320 Coupé through to the 305 Coupé, 365 Coupé and 405 Coupé these enclosed cruisers have defined how Scandinavian boaters experience the water: protected when conditions demand it, open when the weather allows.
The typical Coupé owner values extended time aboard. These are cruisers who measure trips in weeks rather than weekends, who prioritise the interior living experience, and who want a boat that works as hard in November as it does in July.
Covered, shaded or open. Three boats in one.
The canopy is a spray hood with a top, a front and two sides, and each part comes off on its own.That gives you three boats, and you change between them in a few minutes, at the dock or at anchor,as the day changes.
Covered. Everything up, and you sit warm and dry behind the windscreen, at the helm and in the Usofa
lounge, for the crossing in wind and rain.
Shaded. Front and sides off, and the top stays as a roof over the helm and the lounge. Sunshades upfore and aft, and the whole deck sits in shade with the air moving through. The lunch that runs longwith friends, or the afternoon with a book.
Open. Everything down, and the boat is open from bow to stern. The swim in the afternoon, and thelong evening at anchor under the stars.
If the rain comes in, the spray hood goes back on and you are under cover again.
Design and silhouette of a classic daycruiser
The targa arch is drawn from the iconic Nimbus 32 Ballista, the top of the range when it arrived for the1990 season, a roomy, comfortable 40-knot daycruiser that stayed in the range from 1990 to 2005with little more than the materials changing. A boat stays that long for one reason. People loved it.The open version carries its silhouette into 2026 on a 12.7-metre hull, and the effect is two things atonce, a little nostalgia at the first sight of that profile, and a boat that is all of today underneath it. Thearch is fixed, and folds down for transport or winter storage.

I think many long-time Nimbus owners will see the resemblance fromacross the harbour. Underneath it is every bit the Weekender our owners know, the lounge, thebalcony, the cabins. Built on the proven 42 hull
Underneath it is the Sport Weekender 42 as launched this year. The aft lounge is the heart of it, aspacious social area with seating that adjusts to the moment, sunbeds fore and aft, and an outdoorgalley close enough that lunch comes together with everyone still around. The deck space isgenerous, so people move freely bow to stern, for the swim, the water toys and the socialising, andthere is ample storage for the gear. The starboard side balcony folds out at anchor and steps thelounge down to the water. The swim platform is built into the hull, with an optional hydraulic platformthat lowers to serve as a passerelle when moored. The helm seats hold you on a long passage, andgyro stabilisation is on the options list for the days and nights at anchor.
Below deck, two double cabins and a bathroom with standing height, a door, a toilet and a shower.There is room for friends or family during the day, and beds for four when the afternoon becomes aweekend. The boat at Cannes has the new Legacy edition interior, a light Scandinavian fabric withdiamond stitching that keeps the whole boat bright and fresh.
The hull is the proven air-lubricated twin-stepped hull of the 42 series, dry and stable, with a lowplaning threshold and a top speed past 45 knots. Power is twin Mercury Verado outboards, V8 2 xPage 3 of 4300 hp or V10 2 x 425 hp, with Mercury Joystick Piloting and an integrated bow thruster. The boat atCannes carries twin V10 425s.
